My next adventure starts soon! In less than a week I will be flying to Mexico to volunteer for about 7 months. I will be serving as a volunteer with the United Methodist Volunteers In Mission program. I will be placed in a children's boarding home Hogar Estudiantil Indigena in Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca. It serves jr/sr high school kids who live so far out of town that they need a place to stay during the week in order to get to school each day. While I am there I will help students with homework and teach informal English classes.
My mother will be flying down with me and we will travel to Puebla first to meet up the regional coordinator. Since learning of this trip, my mother has been trying to find the family that she stayed with in Puebla back in the 70's.... and she found them! So, we will also get to visit with them before continuing on to Oaxaca.
I'm excited to be in a place where I can continue to improve my Spanish skills, build new relationships and grow in my faith.
